Al gore Lead Romney in the Poll ( Democrats an inconvenient truth environment )
Election 2008: Clinton and Gore both lead Romney
If the 2008 presidential race were held today, Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney would face uphill races against two very familiar Democratic names. A Rasmussen Reports election survey shows former Vice President Al Gore defeating Romney 48% to 39%, and New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton besting the governor 48% to 40%.
A previous Rasmussen Reports survey showed Romney trailing Barack Obama and John Edwards by double digits.
Clinton is viewed at least somewhat favorably by 50% of Likely Voters and unfavorably by 48%. For Gore, those numbers are 45% favorable and 52% unfavorable (see ratings for other Democratic candidates).
Romney earns favorable reviews from 27% of voters. Thirty-nine percent (39%) hold the opposite opinion and 34% don't know enough about him to form an opinion (see ratings for other Republican candidates).
In other match-ups, Senator Clinton trails GOP hopefuls Rudy Giuliani and John McCain but leads Newt Gingrich.
Gore also leads Gingrich while trailing McCain and Giuliani.
Giuliani and McCain currently have the most voter support for the GOP Primary competition.
Clinton and Illinois Senator Barack Obama are 1-2 among the Democrats.
The national telephone survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports December 6-7, 2006. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
