Edwards Fundraiser Scheduled for Birmingham

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Dec. 29, 2006 -- Supporters are planning a January 19th fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.
It probably won't be the only time the former vice presidential nominee is in Alabama before the 2008 primary.
Montgomery attorney Gibson Vance, a longtime Edwards supporter, said the event will be held in Birmingham.
Vance participated in a conference call with Edwards on Wednesday night. He said Edwards has raised about $900,000 in Alabama over the past three years, with much of it coming from fellow trial lawyers.
Edwards was the running mate of Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry in 2004.
