Senator Edwards praises Israeli willingness to compromise
US Democratic presidential contender, Senator John Edwards, told Israelis Monday that the future of the United States was bound up with the future of the Jewish state.
"Your future is our future," he said, speaking by live video to the Herzliya Conference near Tel Aviv.
According to reports Edwards praised Israel's willingness to compromise for the sake of securing peace with the Palestinian Arabs.
Since 1948, Israeli governments have repeatedly stretched out their hands to the Arabs in an effort to bring an end to the war between them.
Under intense international and often US-directed pressure, the tiny Jewish state has been willing to take tremendous "risks for peace" and even offered to give away the most sacred parts of its historic homeland.
American presidents have traditionally strengthened Israel with the one hand, while workig dilomatically with the other to weaken her in the face of growing Arab animosity and danger.
