City expected to cash in on upcoming green convention ,former Vice President Al Gore as keynote speaker
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) national convention -- which will be hosted by San Antonio in May and features former Vice President Al Gore as keynote speaker -- is expected to attract 25,000 visitors and 200-plus members of the national and international media.
More importantly, say local officials, the convention is expected to generate $25 million in direct economic impact and could provide a significant boost in efforts to position San Antonio as a major cultural tourism destination. The 2007 convention is built around the theme "Growing Beyond Green." It will focus on future endeavors by architects to fully incorporate environmentally friendly concepts into their designs.
