TOKYO — Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore urged Japanese business leaders Monday to take the lead in preventing global warming on the strength of their expertise in energy efficiency. "Our planet now has fever and it's not going away," Gore told about 400 Japanese business executives in Tokyo at the hall of the Japan Business Federation, the country's most influential business lobby. "It is time for us as a world community to respond to this climate crisis. It is not a political issue. It is a moral issue."
Gore, who is in Japan to promote his documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth," said Japanese corporations are known worldwide for taking an active role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, actively adopting new technologies and introducing new levels of efficiency "not known elsewhere until they were adopted here. The business leadership of Japan can lead the way and lead the business community of the world," Gore told the executives including Fujio Mitarai, the federation's head and chairman of Canon Inc, Nippon Steel Corp President Akio Mimura and Sanyo Electric Co Chairwoman Tomoyo Nonaka.
