Clinton plans weekend swing through Iowa, aides say
DES MOINES, Iowa Aides say New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will make her initial foray into Iowa next weekend.
Clinton has announced she is running for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Details of the upcoming campaign swing were still being finalized, but spokeswoman Lorraine Voles says an official announcement would come within days.
Clinton's decision to enter the race, and to compete in Iowa's leadoff precinct caucuses, reshuffles the Democratic contest in the state.
Some political onlookers had suggested she would use Governor Tom Vilsack's presence in the race as an excuse to skip past Iowa's leadoff caucuses. She has clearly decided against that strategy.
Her move comes after Illinois Senator Barack Obama announced he will form an exploratory committee to ponder seeking the Democratic nomination.
It also comes as the pace of campaigning in Iowa is beginning to quicken.
Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards and former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson are spending time in eastern Iowa this weekend.
