Turns out 2006 was the warmest year in recorded history for the Metroplex.
The average high temperature for the year was 80.4 degrees - the first time the region had highs that averaged above 80.
The previous record was 79.5 degrees set in 1954, according to meteorologist Alan Moller of the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth.
In addition, the 2006 average mean temperature - the average of the high and low temperatures - was 69.3 degrees, another record. The previous record was 68.6 degrees in 1999, followed by 68.3 degrees in 1998.
“All of those years are pretty recent,” Moller said.
