Edwards among trio scheduled to visit MU By Anthony HanshewThe Herald-Dispatch
HUNTINGTON -- A Tri-State standout, a highly-coveted cornerback and an early verbal commitment are scheduled for football recruiting visits at Marshall University this weekend.
Running back Christian Edwards is scheduled to make the short trek from Cabell Midland High School to visit Herd football. Edwards, a 1,000-yard rusher, earned Class AAA first team, all-state honors

Dequan Bembry could end his recruiting process following his visit. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound defensive back from Hawkinsville High School (Ga.) originally committed to Auburn, but recently reopened his recruitment.
Cornerback remains a top priority as Marshall wraps its recruiting Class of 2007. Bembry, who boasts sprinter's speed, also has offers from Indiana, Southern Miss and Troy. He's considered a three-star prospect by www.rivals.com.
Like Bembry, Micah Carter garnered considerable interest from Bowl Championship Series programs. The 6-5, 330-pound offensive lineman from Beckley Woodrow Wilson High School committed to the Thundering Herd prior to his senior season.
Carter, also a three-star prospect, is rated as the nation's No. 92 offensive lineman by www.scout.com.
National Signing Day is Feb. 7.
MU FOOTBALL BANQUET: Marshall will honor its outgoing senior class during Saturday's annual football banquet. The event kicks off at 3 p.m. at the Pullman Plaza Hotel (former Radisson Hotel Huntington) and tickets are $35 each.
For information, call Edna Justice at 696-6464 or Mark George at 690-0602. Red Dawson, a Marshall assistant coach on the 1970 and '71 teams, will serve as featured speaker.
