(LIP-wb) -- Billion-spectacle against climatic catastrophe: Al Gore introduced his plans for "Live Earth" today, the greatest tribute concert of all times. More than 100 bands will perform in seven cities throughout the world, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Bon Jovi. Gore is envisioning the beginning of a new environment movement.
The eco-missionary plans this mega charity event for July 7, 2007, walking in the footsteps of other goo-doing people like Bob Geldof and Bono. Both musicians fought for a global debt relief for "third world" countries by organizing concert projects like "Live Aid" (1985) und "Live 8" (2005).
The Gore project is destined to help the environment. Stages in seven cities - that sounds like the seventh world wonder. London, Shanghai, Johannesburg and Sydney are mentioned on the rock-agenda, in addition to thee cities (USA, Japan, Brazil) still to be determined. Gore wants to unite more than two billion rock fans, more than the other two aforementioned concerts combined.
"To solve the climate crisis, we must address billions of people", Gore said. He also started a new campaign called "Save Our Selves - SOS". The purpose is to gather as many people globally, something the world has never seen before. At a press conference he was supported by actress Cameron Diaz, producer Kevin Wall and rapper Pharrell Williams - the latter promising the "biggest party on Earth".
The agenda includes musicians ad bands like Snoop Dogg, Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Korn, the Black Eyed Peas, Enrique Iglesias, Faith Hill, among many other superstars.
"Television hypnotizes billions. But it is only a one-way conversation which fills our heads with junk food. The only way to fill our words with meaning again is music", Gore supposedly opined.
Since he lost the U.S. presidential election in 2000 to George W. Bush, Al Gore's main profession is ecology activist and he spends most of his time traveling around the world.
