The"Gore effect" hits South Florida

The"Gore effect" hits South Florida
A "disciple" of Al Gore comes to the Miami Boat Show to preach the "gospel" of global warmening:
Kipnis, among the first of 1,000 disciples Gore plans to train to help spread his gospel of global warming, aims to convert skeptics -- even if it's one skipper at a time.
''It's a tough audience, but I like a challenge,'' Kipnis said Thursday, before debuting his version of Gore's story to an audience of about a dozen.
Kipnis will put on his fishing-focused version -- with more about reefs, corals and South Florida waters, along with plenty of pictures of trophy catches -- again Sunday and Monday. Gore himself also is scheduled to come to Miami on Feb. 28 to give his popular multimedia lecture for University of Miami students, faculty and staff.
We should all mark our calendars for Feb. 28 in expectation of a particularly chilly day. But the power of the by-now notorious "Gore effect" is such that the mere presence of a Gore "disciple" in Miami is enough to bring the coldest weather of the season thus far:
December was one of the warmest on record, second only to 1931. January was also mild. That was thanks to a lingering high-pressure ridge ''that acted like a blanket, keeping the cold air from coming south,'' said Brabander.
''You finally had that ridge break down enough that we're getting cold from the northern states,'' he said. "So yes, it's going to be cold for us.''
Friday night was expected to bring the coldest weather of the season -- prompting state officials to urge Floridians to prepare for the chilly night.
Leave it to the force of Gore to blow away that nasty, warmening ridge of high pressure and usher in the coldening.
The "Gore effect" is explained, here.
